REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Medical Technologist (ASCP or AMT) OR Medical Lab Scientist license/certification within 6 months employment approved by a nationally recognized body

SAFE Training at appropriate level within one year, renew annually BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR within 6 months of employment

Bachelor’s degree with applicable experience to obtain ASCP or AMT certification.

SCHEDULE:

Nights: 9 pm- 7:30 am

Evenings: 1 pm- 11:30 pm

PAY:

is based off of experience, but range is $12.00 to $25.00

Shift-Diff is offered for both schedules

JOB SUMMARY

Receives written requisition from physicians for laboratory tests; obtains laboratory specimens using established laboratory techniques; calibrates, maintains, and operates equipment necessary to perform test; reports tests to area designated in a timely manner; performs daily surveillance of test results, work records, and quality control in the department under supervision; actively and consistently contributes to Laboratory Department operations and communications; behaves in a manner consistent with the mission and objectives of CMH and performs other duties as requested.

MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST/MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs laboratory functions, specimen testing, and quality control as per policy and procedures, utilizing equipment, supplies, and procedures appropriate to the ages of the patients served for all subsequent duties:

1.Provides adequate specimen for laboratory testing: Collects specimen utilizing correct equipment and within specified time frames. Performs venipuncture or capillary stick with a minimum discomfort to the patient. Submits specimen with correctly labeled tube and requisition.

2.Performs Quality Control as per policy and procedure and documents results, recognizing and rejecting results based on pre-determined ranges of acceptability.

3.Performs technical procedures, recognizing and rejecting invalid results whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s acceptable levels of performance.

4.Performs instrument and procedural calibration and documents results.

5.Performs maintenance activities and documents results.

6.Enters and validates reports in the laboratory computer system.

7.Provides accurate and reliable results on specimens submitted for testing in the following departments: Hematology Microbiology Parasitology/KOH/WetPrep Chemistry Urinalysis Blood Bank Serology

8.Performs testing procedures utilizing prioritizing guidelines within time frames as per policy and procedures.

9.Acts as Technical Consultant for off-site clinic labs (moderate complex laboratories) when requested if qualified.

10.Assumes the general supervisor responsibilities, as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA), in the temporary absence of the laboratory manager.
