Control Systems Engineer I

DESCRIPTION:

Provide technical/electronics/programming support for internal/external customers. Programming of PLC and HMIs Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/FactoryTalk View and/or Beckhoff platforms.  Ensure quality and customer satisfaction.

Time Utilization:   Schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate internal and external customer schedules. Provide after-hours support as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

Program and support Allen-Bradley PLC/HMI and/or Beckhoff machine programs and hardware implementations as needed.  

Communicate and exchange information with our parent company regarding machine controls and programming issues.  Travel to parent company as required.

Provide company-wide technical/electronic support for Parts, Technical Training, and Field Service Technicians.  Assist sales team during meetings and presentations (machine sales). 

Troubleshoot and repair machines (program, hardware, and wiring) and accessories in-house or in the field as needed, primarily in electronic concerns.  Detect and repair problems with high accuracy and in a timely manner.

Communicate with the customer, sales team, service team, integrators, and suppliers on electronic/machine control issues as needed.

Provide engineered electrical designs or design modifications for retrofits, stock machines, pre-owned equipment.

Record time spent working with other departments in a format specified by the Control Systems Engineering Manager.

Other Responsibilities:

Create/modify electrical schematics in E3 as required.

Design and develop engineering changes to update old equipment with new components as needed. Oversee its development through a third party vendor, and provide support for equipment once it is installed in the customer’s facility. 

Provide assistance with interfaces to third-party equipment.

Provide explanations on sequencing and other program questions when required.

Travel to assist Field Service Technicians with machines or for training/refresher training on control systems and new technology

As requested, assist the Technical Training Team in supporting our training and recurring training goals for the Field Service Technicians.

Stay up to date on current technology and procedures, through training, college classes and literature.

Learn and use SAP transactions necessary for proper documentation, purchasing, and efficient workflow.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and two years related experience in control system design and programming; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in MS Office, including ability to create formulas and basic macros in Excel.  Working knowledge of design software and project management software also required. Must have high level programming language (e.g., C/C++, Visual Basic, Structured Text) experience.
