Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer

DESCRIPTION:

Summary

Provide the engineering required in the selection and application of instrumentation and data acquisition systems used for development and certification testing of parts, assemblies and flight test aircraft. Assist engineering in design and fabrication of prototypes, assuring that a proper liaison is established and maintained between the Engineering and Flight Test departments with regard to installation of test instrumentation for prototype flight test aircraft.

 

Responsibilities:

Plan testing program equipment manpower and time requirements

Track and maintain status of lab standards and test equipment

Interface test equipment with available units or work with engineering to design test equipment installation

Maintain parts inventory so as to provide rapid response to test requests and equipment failures

Design and setup instrumentation and data acquisition systems on test aircraft

Research new instrumentation offering improvements to present methods i.e. accuracy, speed, size and interfacing

 

Requirements:

BS in Electrical or mechanical engineering

Minimum of 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Comprehensive knowledge of powerplant, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical/avionics systems and test equipment utilized in the flight and ground test area, gained from related experience, is necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Experience with a wide range of data acquisition and control systems for both flight and ground testing (Teletronics Technology, ACRA, national instruments and MTS).

Extensive knowledge of sensor selection and setup (strain gages, pressure transducers, load cells, displacement transducers, thermocouples, etc)
