DESCRIPTION:
- Life Claims Analyst is responsible for the timely and accurate claims adjudication process for the life and annuity claims business; as well as ensuring excellent customer service in all areas of the claims processing department, and analyzing policy plans for life and/or annuity claims benefits. Daily work includes both routine tasks and special projects.
- The Life Claims Analyst interprets and processes life and annuity claim benefits in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Analyze policy plans to determine any benefits payable.
- Reviews pending claims to determine the appropriateness of the claim status.
- Researches insured/annuitant information using the internal policy administration system(s). Examines information obtained, including, but not limited to, verification of coverage, policy values, and policy status; and examines information received during the claim review process, including but not limited to, death certificates, claim forms, assignment forms, estate, and trust documentation.
- Maintains production and claims quality standards.
- Provides customer service internally and externally as needed, in response to routine inquiries and resolves concerns on an “as-needed” basis.
- Constructs letters to claimants regarding claim status, payment, denial, and general claims inquiries.
- Assists with opening mail and returned mail, as needed.
- Answer telephone inquiries from internal and external
- Minimum High School diploma/GED – some college preferred.
- Must have the ability to analyze a policy plan to determine eligible benefits.
- Two years of previous experience processing life/annuity claims.
- The ability to construct proper written communication and business correspondence; writes clearly and informatively.
- The ability to meet company attendance requirements for position, including reliable transportation and a professional office appearance.
- Demonstrate effective computer skills; (Example: able to navigate within a computer/systems-dependent environment without assistance; experience in a windows-based computer environment preferred.); MS Word and Excel.
- Effective verbal communication skills – speaking clearly and positively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification and responds well to questions.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills.
- Possess the ability to absorb and apply new and changing information.
- Self-motivated and accountable with ability to resolve any outstanding issues to closure.
- Able to effectively handle multiple tasks.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
- Demonstrates responsiveness and a sense of urgency when dealing with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrates professionalism and presents a positive image of the company when interacting with internal and external customers.
- Supports individual and team goals and initiatives and effectively balances these responsibilities; accepts ownership for individual result.
- Skilled at developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a positive, confident attitude; exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views..
