Summary Statement: Applies advanced knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and industry practices and standards in materials and process engineering to evaluate technical and economic factors and recommend engineering and manufacturing actions for attainment of design objectives of processes or products in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities: Develop processes and solutions to a variety of problems associated with Chemical Processing and Metal Bonding of aircraft structures, including tank chemistry and testing of metal bond components. Work directly with customers to understand customer specifications and requirements on old and new programs. Configure NORDAM’s new state of the art clean line system to make sure all processes are within customer and NORDAM specification limits. Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity requiring judgment and ingenuity to modify procedures and approaches within current policies and practices related to applications of materials, equipment or processes in the manufacturing, rework and repair of aerospace products. Conduct research on materials and suppliers to find materials suitable for specific product applications. Develop process and specifications to build products using a variety of different materials. Assist operations and manufacturing with new process implementation and process improvements. Develops or uses computer software and hardware to conduct tests on chemicals, fuels, and processes. Monitor and assist in directing and controlling operational, functional, and performance phases of tests. Reviews product failure data and interprets laboratory tests and analyses to establish or rule out material and process causes.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: MATERIAL & PROCESS ENGINEER II Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience: Experience may be substituted for the formal education and training requirements in this section at the discretion of management. Technical Bachelor level degree from four-year College or university in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry and three (3) to six (6) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Works under very general supervision, sound judgment, completeness and accuracy are expected.
